Herbert Lawrence Blickhan

Funeral services were held at 10:30 a.m. on March 29, 2008 at St. Joseph's Catholic Church in Elkader, Iowa, with interment in the St. Joseph's Catholic Cemetery, Elkader, Iowa. Leonard Funeral Home of Elkader was in charge of the arrangements.

Herbert Lawrence Blickhan, 77, of Elkader, died Wednesday, March 26, 2008, at his residence following a long illness. He was born October 22, 1930 in Independence, MO, to Herbert L. and Mabel (White) Blickhan, Sr.

On August 25, 1951, at St. Francis Catholic Church, Corfu, NY, Herbert was united in marriage to Irene Piechocki. Six children were born to this union. He served in the Army during the Korean Conflict and attained the rank of Corporal. Herbert was an engineer for McDonnell Douglas for many years. He enjoyed reading, puzzles, woodworking and spending time with his family.

Survivors include his wife Irene; daughter, Janet McNece, both of Elkader, sons, Thomas (Sheryl) Blickhan, Blue Springs, MO, Michael (Cheria) Blickhan, Independence, MO, Herbert Blickhan, San Clemente, CA, daughter Anne Peyton, West Hills, CA; seven grandchildren and a sister, Shirley (Jack) Harris, Sioux Falls, SD.

Herbert was preceded in death by his parents; daughter, Barbara Hall and grandson, Dustin Blickhan.
