GUTTENBERG, Iowa -- Levern W. Kahle, 89, of 707 N. Second St., Guttenberg, died Saturday, April 5, 2008, peacefully at home with his loving wife beside him.
Services will be at 11 a.m. Monday, April 7, at St. John's Lutheran Church, Guttenberg, with the Rev. Harold McMillin officiating. Burial will be in the Guttenberg City Cemetery. Friends may call after 9 a.m. Monday at the church. The Tuecke-Allyn Funeral Home & Cremation Service, Guttenberg, is in charge of arrangements.
He was born on Feb. 18, 1919, in Guttenberg, son of Henry and Selma (Rodenberg) Kahle. Levern received his education from the local country school. He enlisted in the Army in 1942, serving his country for four years in the European Theater.
He married Gayle Moser on Sept. 26, 1946, at St. John's Lutheran Church, Guttenberg, and they had been happily together for 61-and-a-half years. Together they farmed until 1968, when they moved to their home in Guttenberg. Levern worked for Clayton County Secondary Roads for 12 years.
Surviving are his wife, Gayle; a brother-in-law, Roger (Maureen) Moser; sister-in-law, Teresa Moser; and many nieces, nephews, friends and his best buddy, Isaac Eulberg.
He was preceded in death by his parents; a sister, Delores Kottke; and a brother, Burnell Kahle.
