Monona, IA

Visitation: 4 to 7 p.m. November 16, 2006 at Leonard Funeral Home, Monona, IA, and after 10:00 a.m. until service time at the church on Friday.
Funeral Service: 11:00 a.m. November 17, 2006 at Living Faith United Methodist Parish, Monona, IA.
Interment: November 17, 2006 at Monona City Cemetery, Monona, IA, with military honors.

Russell Edward Allert, 80, Monona, Iowa, died Monday, November 13, 2006, at Gundersen Lutheran Hospital, La Crosse, WI, following a brief illness. Russell was born on October 9, 1926, in rural Monona, Iowa, to Earl and Clara (Hefner) Allert. He graduated from Luana High School in 1944.

Russell served in the United States Army during the Korean Conflict. He was Postmaster in Des Moines, Iowa, for thirty years. He enjoyed all types of sports and loved to fish.

Survivors include one daughter, Phyllis Allert, Appleton, WI; one brother, Bobby Dean Allert, Monona; seven grandchildren, Kisha Allert, CA, Sharika, Rico, Rickey Jr., Reva, Regina, Rakeen Osby, Green Bay, WI, and several nieces and nephews.

Russell is preceded in death by his parents; one son, Brian Allert and one sister, Lee LaVonne King.
