Harley Lloyd Herrmann

Funeral services were held for Harley Lloyd Herrmann, 76, Wednesday, May 1, 1991 at St. John Lutheran Church, Farmersburg, Pastor Ben Davis officiated with burial in Monona City Cemetery. Honorary pallbearers were Vernon Glawe, Bernell Glawe, Maurice Powers, Curtis Staff, Don Montgomery, Car Schmidt, Lloyd Amundson, Hard Krambeer and Rueben Bluhm. Active pall bearers were Paul Christianson, Brett Wrght, Dale Herrmann, Steve Christianson, Alan Furlong and Tom Furlong. Military services were conducted by St. Olaf American Legion Post 388 and Monona AmVets Post 27.

Harley Lloyd Herrmann was born July 16, 1920, in Wagner Township of Clayton County. The third son of seven children born to Gottfried and Anna Knappe Herrmann, he was baptized and confirmed at St. Paul Lutheran Church in Waverly May 8, 1949, by Rev. Wm. F. Schmidt. He received his education in Wagner Township school and in Florida.

He entered the U.S. Army and served in the Military Police Corp 677 in El Paso, Texas, from 1942 to 1946. On April 16, 1949, he was united in marriage to Ethelyn Kurth in Farmersburg by Rev. R. H. Steege. To this union two children were born. The couple lived in Waverly, St Olaf-Farmersburg area and since 1972 in Monona. He farmed in St. Olaf and trucked milk for many years. He also drove truck for Clayton County secondary road department until retiring in 1985. Harley Herrmann died Monday April 29, 1991, at Lutheran Hospital in La Crosse, Wisconsin. He was a member of St. John Lutheran Church and served on the church council, St. Olaf and Farmerburg fire departments, Farmersburg town council, St. Olaf American Legion Post 388, Monona AmVets Post 27, and disabled Veterans.

Preceding him in death were his parents, three brothers, William. Arthur, and Lorimer and one sister Ema Possehl.

Surviving includes his wife Ethelyn, one daughter Linda Rathe of Edgewood, one son and his wife David and Dawn Herrmann of Walburg, North Carolina, a grandson Zachary Herrmann, a sister Dorothy Furlong of Dubuque and a brother Ray Herrmann of Gassville, Alaska.

A heartfelt thank you for cards, letters, prayers, phone calls, vists, rides, food and all the many acts of kindness during the loss of our loved one. All were a great source of comfort and will never be forgotten.
