Vernon Orville Schuety

Funeral services were held for Vernon Orville Schuety, 29, Sunday, June 14, 1992, at Norway Lutheran Church, rural St. Olaf. Rev William Palmquist officiated the service with burial in Norway Lutheran Cemetery. Pallbearers were Robert Schuety, Steven Schuety, Bryon Koopman, Rafe Koopman, Ronnie Burns and Christopher Kuehl.

Vernon Schuety was born November 14, 1962, in Elkader. He grew up in the St. Olaf area and graduated from Central of Elkader in 1981. He attended the University of Dubuque on an ROTC scholarship and graduated with honors in 1986. He was united in marriage to Christine Koopman, June 16, 1984, at Garnavillo. He was commissioned into the United States Army in May of 1986, and reported to Fort Rucker, Ala., to begin his Army Aviation training. He was stationed in Korea for a year and then returned to Fort Rucker where he was honorably discharged in September 1991 with the rank of Captain. He left the Army to pursue his dream of flying for a major airline. At the time of his death on June 8, 1992, he was employed as a Captain for GP Express, a commuter airline operating out of Tuscaloosa, Ala.

He is survived by his wife Christine; two sons, Clayton and Chad at home; his parents William and Ardis (Peterson) Schuety of St. Olaf; two brothers, Robert Schuety of Puerto Rico, and Steven Schuety of St. Olaf; grandparents Orville Peterson of St. Olaf, and Phyllis Kuehl of Marquette; a nephew Derek Schuety and a niece Megan Schuety, both of Puerto Rico. Other survivors include his birth father, Edward Kuehl and his wife Audrey of Embarrass, Minn.; and their children Christopher, Ingrid, Emilie and Cheryl, all at home.

He was preceded in death by his grandmother Helen Peterson and his grandfather Edward Kuehl, Sr.
