FRANCK, Donald F.
Donald F. Franck,80,of Central City, Iowa, died Saturday, December 28,2002, at the Good Neighbor Home in Manchester, Iowa. Donald was born the son of George and Mabel (Elet) Franck on November 9, 1922 in Monona, Iowa. He attended the Figgie country school near Watson, Iowa. Donald later lived in Strawberry Point with his parents and joined the U.S.Army and served in World War II in Saipan until the Armistice was signed. On July 12,1946, he was united in marriage to Evelyn Sargent in Manchester. He returned to Strawberry Point and worked at Evans Hardware, did construction work and farmed in the Van Horne area. He also worked at Iowa Manufacturing in Cedar Rapids for thirty-eight years before retiring. Donald was a former member of the Strawberry Point American Legion and AMVETS Post 37 of Central City.
Survivors include his wife of fifty-six years, Evelyn; his children, Keith Roberts of Independence, Linda (Jerry) Harford of Anamosa, Dean (Penny)Franck of Marion, Chuck (Connie)Franck of Destrehan, Louisiana, Bobbi Jo (Gary) Port,Cedar Rapids, Kevin (Brenda) Franck of Cedar Rapids, Doreen (Dave) Harford of Central City, Roger Franck and special friend Darlene of Cedar Rapids, Donnette (Norm) Ratliff of Colonial Heights, Virginia, Russ (Nancy) Franck of Cedar Rapids, and Mike (Teri) Franck of Central City; and a sister, Lavon Kelley and husband Veryl of Hiawatha. Also surviving are 33 grandchildren and 45 great-grandchildren in addition to many nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents; a son, Marty; a grandson, Brian Knight; a great-grandson, Benjamin; sister, Irene and her husband Harry Wilson; and a son-in-law, Bob Knight.
Services were held 10:30 am Thursday, January 2, 2003 at Murdoch Funeral Home, Central City. Pallbearers were Marty Roberts, David Berger, Charles Franck, Michael Knight, Don Franck, David Harford, Nick Franck, Tisha Franck and Jenny Franck. Military rites were performed by the Central City American Legion Post 421 and the Central City AMVETS Post 37. Graveside services were at the Strawberry Point Cemetery.
