Naomi A. Durr
Naomi Agnes Durr of Naples, Fla., died July 22, 1999. She had been a resident of Florida since 1966, having come to Venetian Shores on Plantation Key from Davenport, Iowa.
Her interests were many including ceramics, bicycling and teaching parakeets to talk. She had a "green thumb" in the flower garden and was an accomplished seamstress and oil painter.
Her life-time interest was fishing, both in Canada and in the Atlantic, off Plantation Key. She would always remember when she hung an eight and one-half foot, 151 pound Blue Marlin on their 55th wedding anniversary, she tipping the scale at 103 pounds at that time.
She and her husband Kenneth had traveled to foreign countries for many years. They came to Naples in 1981.
She was born in Prairie du Chien, Wis. on January 4, 1911, the daughter of William and Mary (Stowell) Valley and had lived in Duluth, Minn. in her early years. She married Kenneth Harold Durr, son of Arthur Joseph and Hilma (Eggen) Durr of McGregor, Iowa, on April 27, 1930. Naomi and Ken were planning their 70th wedding anniversary party in April of the year 2000.
She is survived by her husband, Kenneth; a daughter, Joan D. Fulton of Davenport, Iowa; a granddaughter, Linda Black at West Branch, Iowa; and a grandson, Robert E. Fulton II of Janesville, Wis.; five great-grandchildren, Rebecca Lee and Kristin Marie Black, Robert III, Joanna and Katie Ann Fulton; other survivors include a nephew, Arthur Valley of Janesville, Wis.; and a niece, Lois Aspelet of LaCrosse, Wis., along with numerous cousins.
Her parents, along with her brother Arthur, preceded her in death.
There will be no memorial services in Naples. Burial and a memorial service will take place at the Memorial Park Cemetery in Davenport at a later date.
