Gwen Boske

Funeral services for Gwen Boske were held Saturday, December 17, 2005, at 10:30 a.m. in the Prince of Peace Lutheran Church at LaCrescent, Minnesota. The Reverends Jim Arends and Michael Woods officiated. Burial was in the church cemetery. The Casket Bearers were the grandchildren. A visitation was was held Friday, December 16, 2005 from 4:00 to 6:00 p.m. at the Schumacher-Kish Funeral Home in LaCrescent who was in charge of arrangements.

Gwendolyn Shirley (Rekow) Boske was born July 18, 1922, to Henry William and Mabel Sophia Wilhelmina (Kruse) Rekow, on a farm near Luana, Iowa. She passed away Tuesday, December 13, 2005, in the LaCrescent Healthcare Center at LaCrescent, Minnesota. She was 83 years old.

She was baptized in St. John Lutheran Church at Luana, Iowa and confirmed there on June 20, 1937, by the Reverend H. P. Kumpf. Gwen attended the Luana School for several years and was graduated from Postville High School in 1940. She was an exceptional student, receiving several awards in her Business classes, as well as in Science and English and was Valedictorian of the class of 1940.

Following graduation, Gwen and her sister, Marjorie, took the train to Chicago to find jobs. Gwen was employed as a private secretary at the F. W. Means Towel Company.

Gwen was married to Edward Henry Boske on April 28, 1945, in Chicago. To this union four children were born, Donna, Debra, Daniel, and Douglas. They lived in several Iowa communities, which included Dubuque, Postville, Cedar Rapids, and Mason City, and moved to LaCrescent, Minnesota in December of 1961.

In later years, Gwen worked for a microfilming company, preserving records for various companies, which included Gundersen Hospital in LaCrosse, banks, and other small businesses.

Gwen enjoyed fishing, camping, and bowling, but above all, she will be remembered for her selfless devotion to her family.

She is survived by her two daughters, Donna (William) Brady of Galesville, WI, and Debra (Donald) Trnka, Minnewaukan, ND, two sons, Daniel Boske, Hutchinson, MN, and Douglas (Lisa) Boske, LaCrescent, MN; nine grandchildren, William (Krista) Brady, Jon (Nicolle) Brady, Penny (Scott) Stuber, Nicole Porkornowski, Casey (Jeff) Narum, Jill (Eric) Copeland, Dustin Boske, Dalton Boske, and Jacob Davis; 11 great grandchildren; three sisters, Marjorie (Stan) Schroeder, and Karen (David) Schutte, all of Postville, IA, and Sherrill (Leslie) Heckman, Mountain Home, AR, and a brother, Leigh (Gwen) Rekow, Postville, IA, and a brother-in-law, John "Jack" (Sharon) Boske, Channahon, IL; and many nieces and nephews.

She is preceded in death by her parents, her husband, Ed, who died January 21, 2005, a sister who died in infancy, and a sister, Donna Lois, a brother, Burdette, and a sister-in-law, Shirley Klug and her husband, Erwin Klug.
