Mrs. Sarah Sonstegard, age 88 years, 5 months and 15 days died Saturday morning, Jan. 29, 1955, at 2:00 a.m., at the home of her daughter, Mrs. Curtis Olson. Her long active life was spent in good health until a year ago her illness confined her to a wheel chair.

Sarah Olson was born August 14, 18__, the daughter of Aslak and ___ Olson, in Wagner township. She was baptized, confirmed and a member of Norway Lutheran church. At the age of 21, she went to North Dakota. On March 12, 1888, she was united in marriage to Elling Sonstegard at Milton, N. Dak. It was there they spent 19 years farming. In 1907, the moved back to her home town of St. Olaf for two years. In 1911, her final move was made to the farm one-half mile west of St. Olaf, where she had since made her home.

Seven children were born to this union. Preceding her in death were her parents, her husband in 1914, a son Emil in 1945 and three sons in infancy; also six brothers and one sister. Surviving are three daughters, Mrs. Alfred (Clara) Nesteby, Decorah; Mrs. Clifford (Bertha) Walter, Luana; and Mrs. Curtis (Stella) Olson, St. Olaf; thirteen grandchildren, one sister, Mrs. Theodore (Julia) Loftsgard, Elgin; one brother, Oscar Olson, St. Olaf, and a host of relatives and friends.

Pallbearers were all grandsons: Gerald Nesteby, Jimmy Nesteby, Lyle Nesteby, Donald Sonstegard, Leland Olson, and Duane Walter.

Those attending from a distance were: Mrs. Albert Olson and Mrs. Harlan Halverson, Forest City; Mr. and Mrs. Kenneth Olson, Garner; Edgar Nosby, LaCrosse, Wis.; Mr. and Mrs. Rinaldo Ellestad, Spring Grove, Minn.; Mr. and Mrs. Albert Nesteby and Mrs. Max Foss, Decorah; Mr. and Mrs. Harvey Jones, Waukon, and Mrs. Selma Sonstegard of Waterloo.
