Michael Miller, age 82, a well-known and prominent retired Elkader business man died at his home in Elkader early Wednesday morning, Jan. 05, following a week's illness.

Mr. Miller was the son of the late Peter Miller Sr. and Josephine Willmes Miller early pioneers of the Elkader community, and was born on a farm in Boardman township near Elkader April 21, 1872. He grew to manhood on this farm and attended the rural school and Elkader high school. He taught in the rural schools of the county for five years, and then entered the LaCrosse Business university at LaCrosse, Wis. Following his graduation from this school he returned to Elkader and entered the employ of Glesne Bros. general merchandising. In 1906 he bought an interest in the Glesne Bros. firm and became a partner. This "Glesne & Miller" store continued in operation until 1938, when the last brother, Nels Glesne, retired from the firm. Mr. Miller continued to operate the business alone until 1942, when he retired after being identified with the business life of the town of Elkader for 38 years. The "Glesne & Miller" store was located in the Glesne building where the Coast to Coast store is now located until 1935, when they moved to the Humphry building. The "Fashion Shoppe" now owned by his wife, Mrs. Mike Miller, is now located in this building.

He was married to Miss Katherine Schulte at St. Michael's church at Garber, May 23, 1922. They have always made their home at Elkader. Surviving Mr. Miller is his wife, and one son John Miller, all of Elkader, and two grandchildren, Marsha and Becky Miller. Also two brothers, Nick and Philip Miller of Elkader. His parents, three brothers, John, Joseph, and Dominic Miller and one sister, Miss Clara Miller have preceded him in death.

Funeral services were held at St. Joseph's Catholic church in Elkader on Saturday morning at 10:00 a.m., with the Rt. Rev. Msgr. D. A. Gorman, pastor of the church officiating. Burial was made in St. Joseph's cemetery.

Pallbearers were Norbert Niemeyer, Walter Allen, Ed. Burlingame Sr., Joe Mar_sisak, Alfred Bink, Melvin Glesne.
