The death of Mrs. Martin Shea, 77, occurred Jan. 03, at Huntington Memorial hospital in Pasadena, Calif., following a three weeks' illness with heart disease.
As Louise Herwig, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Justus Herwig, she was born Nov. 27, 1877 at Volga, in Clayton county, Iowa. She grew to girlhood in this community.
On June 21, 1898, she was united in marriage to Martin Shea. They farmed near Volga, where their children Hetha, Eva and Cecil were born.
After selling their farm, the family moved to West Union, where they farmed a number of years.
Mr. Shea preceded his wife in death in 1934, also one child preceded her.
In 1947, Mrs. Shea and her daughter Miss Eva Shea moved to Pasadena, Calif., which has since been their home.
Surviving are two daughters, Eva of Pasadena and Mrs. Hetha Schlumbohm of Fort Wayne, Ind., and one son Cecil C. Shea of Springfield, Va., eight grandchildren and four great-grandchildren, also four sisters: Mrs. A. C. Boody, Hudson, Wis.; Mrs. George Rottman, Spokane, Wash.; Mrs. H. V. Yarrington, Leon, Iowa, and Mrs. Wm. McAfee, Orlando, Fla., and one brother, Justus Herwig of Fayette.
The body arrived in Oelwein by train Friday and was taken to the Hintz funeral home.
Funeral services were held Saturday at Sacred Heart church at 9:30 a.m. The pastor, the Rev. Francis G. Bradshaw was celebrant of the Requiem High Mass and also officiated at the graveside.
Relatives of the deceased were casketbearers: Francis Little, Cedar Rapids; William White, Harry Shea, Thomas Bergan, Elkader; Virgil Meyers and Donald Shea, Volga.
Burial was in the church cemetery beside her husband.

Shea, Springfield, Va.; Mr. and Mrs. Schlumbahm, Fort Wayne, Ind.; Ray Herwig, Tom, Ellen and Mary Flanagan, Wadena; Ray Little, Dubuque; Mr. and Mrs. Francis Little, Cedar Rapids; Mr. and Mrs. Joe Shea, Cresco; Mr. and Mrs. Jim Shea, Fennimore, Wis.; Mr. and Mrs. Ed Meskel, West Union; Mr. and Mrs. Glen Little, Elgin; Mr. and Mrs. Thos. Bergan, Mrs. Martha White and son, Elkader.
