Services for Miss Julia Connor, 92, were held Friday morning at St. Joseph's church in Elkader with burial in St. Joseph's cemetery. The Rt. Rev. Msgr. Daniel A. Gorman, pastor, officiated.
She was born May 05, 1862, in Beaver Dam, Wis., daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Owen Connor.
When she was a young child, her parents moved to Clayton county, where she attended school, and later taught in the rural schools for 51 years.
She moved with her parents to McGregor in 1865. A few years later they moved to Elkader where she attended school, graduating from high school in 1879.
A number of years were spent in and around Volga, where she made her home part of the time with her brother, Martin Connor, and family. Following her teaching career, she served as a priest's housekeeper in the county. The past ten years, she had resided at Oelwein and at the time of her death, Wednesday morning, Jan. 05, 1955, she was a patient at the Shepherd nursing home in Oelwein.
Miss Connor was preceded in death by her parents, two sisters, Mrs. Hannah Cassutt of Elkader, Sister Mary Tobias (Franciscan Order) Baltimore, Md., and two brothers, Martin Connor, Oelwein, and Eugene Connor, Elkader. She is survived by nieces and nephews.
Her casket bearers were: Lester Connor, Monona; Henry Connor, Cresco; Martin Minihan, Elgin; George Cassutt, Thomas Killerlain, Elkader, and Gerald Feeney, Volga.
Relatives and friends from out of town that attended the services were: Mr. and Mrs. Henry Connor, David, Mike and Pat, Cresco; Mrs. Helen Mont, Milwaukee, Wis.; Mrs. Ann Brill, Miss Petrene Kelleher, Cedar Rapids; Dodie Kelleher, Aurora, Ill., Lester Connor, Monona; Mr. and Mrs. Martin Minihan, Irene and Pat Minihan, Elgin; Mr. and Mrs. W. F. Barnes, Strawberry Point; Mrs. Zita Humbert and Mike Conboy, Volga.
