Funeral services for Mrs. Alma Sophia Miller, 56, wife of Herman O. Miller who died at her home, at 457 N. Booth Street, in Dubuque on Monday Jan. 01 at 11:30 p.m. were held from the Egelhof funeral home there on Thursday afternoon at St. Mark's Lutheran church at 12:30, with the Rev. Max B. Pinkert, pastor, officiating, and then to the Friedens Evangelical Lutheran church in Elkader, at 2:30 o'clock where the Rev. Paul Kitterer and the Rev. Max B. Pinkert had charge of the service. Burial was made in the East Side cemetery.
Mrs. Miller had been in failing health for several years and seriously ill for the last two months. The direct cause of her death was a heart attack.
Mrs. Miller was born in Clayton county on April 18, 1888, a daughter of the late Frank and Elizabeth Maker. In March 1905 she was married to Herman O. Miller at Garnavillo, Ia., where they began housekeeping and lived until 1920 when they moved to Elkader. Two years ago they moved to Dubuque which has since been their home. During her residence in Elkader Mrs. Miller was a member of the Friedens Evangelical and Reformed church here and of the Frauen Verein, later affiliating with St. Mark's Lutheran church in Dubuque.
Surviving besides her husband are five children, Harvey and Lawrence Miller of Elkader; Marvin Miller, Dubuque; Delbert Miller, St. Olaf; and Mrs. Grover (Helen) Hedeman, Garnavillo; two brothers, Arthur Maker, Elkader, and Christian Maker, Spartansburg, Pa.; six sisters, Mrs. August Seidal, Minneapolis; Mrs. Frances Hintzman, Guttenberg; Mrs. Alvina Ball and Mrs. Katherine Snow, both of San Rafael, Calif., Mrs. Leona Mohrman, Cascade, and Mrs. Mary Hansel, of McGregor, also eight grandchildren.
A grandson, Charles J. Miller, preceded her in death on June 23, 1944.
Pallbearers were: E. W. Carlsen, Chris Meyer, P. J. Hyde, F. E. Sharp, W. H. Walch and E. C. Bandow.
