LITTLEPORT: Charles Benschneider was born in Volga township, Clayton county, Iowa, on June 22, 1874 and died at his home in Littleport on Tuesday morning December 26, 1944, at 9 o'clock.
He was the son of August and Augusta nee Suchow Benschneider pioneers of this county. His mother preceded him in death 28 years ago and his father five years later; two brothers Fred and Max and one sister Caroline died in childhood and two sisters Mrs. Ida Kraus and Mrs. Minnie Krieg both of Elkport.
On April 29, 1903 he was married to Miss Anna Armbruster of Littleport, the Rev. W. Hertal performed the ceremony.
Mr. Benschneider spent his entire life in this community. He was a carpenter and painter by trade and continued this work until Nov. 18, 1944. He also did watch and clock repairing formerly operating a jewelry and repair store in Littleport.
He is survived by his wife, two sisters Mrs. Ricka Thein Elkport and Mrs. Louise Enderes of Cedar Rapids and three brothers, Louis of Luxemburg, Henry of Elkader and August of Elkport.
Funeral services were conducted at the home on Thursday afternoon with the Rev. E. H. Mueller of Elkport in charge, burial was made in Union cemetery.
Pall bearers were Wm, Schuldt, Lawrence Dinan, J. P. Zapf, Neil Michael, George Chettinger and Chas. Reichert.
