Clayton County Reister, 28 Dec. 1944.

James Jellings, 85, died Monday at the Lutheran Home for the Aged at Strawberry Point. The remains were taken to the Hintz Funeral Home in Oelwein. Burial will be at Volga. No date has been set for the funeral as relatives are awaiting the arrival of his son Luverne from Vancouver, Wash.

Funeral services for James J. Jellings were conducted in the Volga Methodist Church on Sunday, Dec. 31st in charge of Rev. Russell Nelson, Two quartet numbers were sung by: Mrs. Clarence Kohls, Mrs. Fred Gernand, Mr. Harry Boleyn and Mr. Albert Kunzman with Mrs. E. S. Clark as accompanist. Burial was made in the Hillcrest Cemetery, Volga City.

Mr. Jellings, the son of Elizabeth and Benjamin Jellings, was born in Clayton County, Iowa, Nov. 08, 1859. He lived in this community during his entire life on a farm and in the village of Volga.

In 1886 he was married to Miss Clarinda McGrea. To this marriage two children were born, a son and daughter. Mrs. Clarinda Jellings passed away at an early age.

Mr. Jellings was married in 1898 to Miss Amelia Herwig. A son, Luverne, and a daughter, Lucille, were born to this marriage. Mrs. Amelia Jellings died in 1933.

Mr. Jellings was a member of the Volga Methodist Church. On the afternoon of Christmas Day, Dec. 25, 1944, he died leaving to mourn his departure: two sons and two daughters; C. B. Jellings of West Union, Iowa; Mrs. Clarinda Tingsley of Spokane, Wash.; Miss Lucille Jellings of Lebanon, Ore.; and Luverne Jellings of Vancouver, Wash. There are three brothers and a sister living: George Jellings of Oelwein; David Jellings of Fayette, Iowa; Mrs. George Oldfather and William Jellings both of Volga; two sisters and a brother preceded him in death. There are also several grandchildren and many friends in this community where he has spent so many years.

Casket-bearers were Raymond Jellings, Arthur Jellings, Arthur Everitt, Glen Moats, Leroy Sloan and Glen Oldfather.

Relatives from out of town who were present at Mr. Jelling funeral were: LuVerne Jellings, Vancouver, Wash.; Miss Lucille Jellings, Lebanon, Ore.; Bert Jellings and family, West Union; Mr. and Mrs. Dave Jellings, Mr. and Mrs. Arthur Jellings, Raymond Jellings, Fayette; Mr. and Mrs. Ed Gerand, Mr. and Mrs. Justin Herwig, Mr. and Mrs. Henry Herwig and Ray Herwig, Wadena; Mr. and Mrs. Donald Jellings, Mr. and Mrs. Walter Jellings, Mr. and Mrs. Duffy, Oelwein, Harry Jellings, Independence.
