Clayton County Register, 28 Dec. 1944.
Searchers Sunday night found the body of Arthur E. Frye, 42, of Clayton, a commercial fisherman, on an island in the Mississippi river across from Clayton after he failed to return home from a hunting trip. Death was pronounced due to a heart attack by a Clayton physician acting for Grant county, Wis., authorities who had charge of the case since the island lies in Wisconsin.
Frye went hunting Sunday afternoon crossing on the ice to the island and intending to return early. When he did not return as expected his family became alarmed and a searching party was organized.
Funeral services were held at the home in Clayton yesterday afternoon and burial was made in the Clayton cemetery.
He is survived by his wife, Geneva; two daughters, Miss Doris Frye Dubuque, and Shirley at home; and a son, Robert.
