Oscar Johnson, renter on the Mike Stence farm near the Downey school house on highway 13 south of here, took his own life by hanging about noon Tuesday, according to Coroner D. E. Lowe who was called to the scene.
The body was found in the barn by Mrs. Johnson. The action was attributed to despondency due to ill health.

Funeral services for Oscar Theodore Johnson, 55, who died at his home in Cox Creek township Saturday, Dec. 23, were held from the Witt funeral chapel here to the Norway Lutheran church Wednesday. Burial was made in the Norway cemetery. The Rev. S. J. Strandjord officiated.
Mr. Johnson was born in Wagner township Jan. 28, 1889, the son of Nels Johnson and Sigri (Larson) Johnson.
July 03, 1913 he was married to Mary Genelge Nelson at St. Olaf. They lived on various farms in Clayton county, moving to the farm on which the home now is, in Jan. 1944.
He is survived by his wife; three sons, Harvey, Orville and Eldo, all of Elkader; three brothers, Albert Johnson in Montana, Henry and Nick, both of St. Olaf, and two sisters, Mrs. Thomas West, of Elkader, and Mrs. Henry Knutson of St. Olaf.
Pallbearers at the funeral were Jay Dunn, Harley Gentz, Herman Schuette, William Dahling, John Latteyer and Ambrose Whittle.
