Funeral services for Fred William Bauer, 72, lifelong resident of Clayton county who died at his home here Friday, May 26, of a heart ailment following three years of failing health, were held at 10 o'clock Monday morning at St. Joseph's church. The Rt. Rev. Msgr. James P. Taken of Elkader, and the Rev. Father Horsefield of McGregor celebrated the Requiem Mass. Burial was made in St. Joseph's cemetery.
Fred W. Bauer, the son of William and Emma Bauer, was born on a farm near Elkader August 30, 1872.
He was married to Eva W. Tujetsch Nov. 16, 1898, in St. Joseph's church here. The couple settled near Elkader where they lived until 1928 when they moved to Elkader and have since made their home here.
Surviving Mr. Bauer are his wife and five children, Miss Helen, at home, Miss Evelyn of Dubuque, Mrs. Florence Donlon of Elkader, Clarence on the home farm near Elkader and Mrs. Miriam Palmer of Santa Monica, Calif. Three sisters, Mrs. Max Opitz of Strawberry Pint, Mrs. Paul Schammel of Lincoln, Neb., and Mrs. Art. Geiger of Dubuque; one brother, Charles Bauer of Buena Vista and six grandchildren.
Pallbearers were: Stephen Donlon, George Cassutt, Fred Kuehl, Albert Breitsprecher, Lester Vogt and Carl Ehrhardt.
Relatives from a distance who attended the funeral were: Miss Evelyn Bauer of Dubuque; Mrs. M. A. Palmer and Bobby of Santa Monica, Calif., Mrs. Art Geiger, Dubuque, Mr. and Mrs. Max Opitz, Marguerite Opitz and Harry Opitz of Strawberry Point, Mr. and Mrs. Charles Bauer, Irma Bauer and Mrs. Joe Bauer and son of North Buena Vista, Miss Agnes Tuetsch of Des Moines, Mrs. Fred Hochhaus and Mrs. Joe Beck and children of Edgewood, Mr. and Mrs. Max Zapf, Garnavillo, and Mrs. Roy Tapper, Barie and Clare Lee of Monona.
