Funeral services for William A. Fuelling, 51, who died at his home near Farmersburg, May 06, were held Wednesday, May 10, at St. John's Lutheran church and burial was made in the Farmersburg and Wagner cemetery with the Rev. H. M. Adix officiating. His death was caused by tuberculosis.
William August Frederick Fuelling, the son of Mr. and Mrs. Ernest Fuelling, was born Dec. 26, 1892 in Farmersburg township. When he was a year old his parents moved to the home farm. He received his education in the Farmersburg public school and until he entered the service, Feb. 28, 1918, he helped his father manage the farm. He served for 18 months with the 30th Division composed of the Hampton National Guards in overseas combat. In the battle of Ypres he was severely gassed and after a period of hospitalization he received his honorable discharge May 31, 1919 at Charleston, S.C.
Mr. Fuelling was a communicant member of St. John's Lutheran church of Farmersburg and a charter member of the American Legion post No. 388 of St. Olaf.
Mr. Fuelling managed his mothers' farm until a year ago when his health began to fail. He underwent two operations and spent a short time at Sunnycrest sanitarium in Dubuque.
Survivors include his mother, Mrs. Mary Fuelling, four sisters, Hilda, Elsie, Lona and Laura at home, and four brothers, Louis of Farmersburg, Edward of Luana, Ben of Farmersburg and Milo of Guttenberg. He was preceded in death by his father.
