Funeral services for Mrs. Nils Arverson, 81, widow of the Rev. Nils Arverson, were held Friday afternoon at her home and at the Decorah Lutheran church. The body was then brought to St. Olaf where services were held in the Norway Lutheran church. She was buried in the church cemetery. The Rev. Oliver G. Fjelstad, pastor of the Decorah Lutheran church, officiated, assisted by the Rev. O. Glesne, former pastor of Decorah church, Decorah and by the Rev. Strandjord at the Norway services.
Mrs. Arverson died early Wednesday morning after a three-years' illness following a fractured leg. She was the former Brita Anfinson and was born April 02, 1862, in Pleasant township in Winneshiek county.
She married the Rev. Nils Arverson in 1883, who died in 1924. After their marriage they went to Pontiac, Ill., where he served as pastor from 1883 to 1886. Their home was subsiquently made at the following places where the Rev. Arverson held pastorates: St. James, Minn. 1886-1889; Baldwin, Wis., 1889-1892; Chicago, 1892-1894; Arendal, Minn., 1894- 1904; and St. Olaf, where they remained from 1904 until his death in 1924. Shortly after his death Mrs. Arverson and family moved to Decorah where she had since made her home.
Surviving are: one daughter, Miss Alma Arverson at home, five sons, Nels B. of Sioux Falls, S.D., Clarence B. of Cambridge, Minn., Gerhard B. of Morehead, Minn., Henry W. of Albert Lea, Minn., and Alfred N. of Pittsburgh, Kan., two brothers, Albert Anfinson of Decorah, and Sander Anfinson of Pleasans township; Five sisters, Julia, Clara and Marie Anfinson of Decorah, Mrs. Tena Osmundson of Pleasans township, and Josia Kerr of Minneapolis. Also surviving are fifteen grandchildren and one great-grandchild.
