STRAWBERRY POINT: Mrs. Jack Jewell, age 68, died Friday at Mercy hospital, Oelwein, following an operation. Funeral services were held Monday at the Methodist church, conducted by the Rev. R. Park Anderson. Music was furnished by a quartet Mrs. Lloyd Kramer, Mrs. B. W. Talcott, Dr. R. W. Dutton and G. J. Gill with Mrs. Robert Leachman as accompanist. Casket bearers were Ray Kellogg, Winnie Bowers, Albert Duncan, John Fredrick, Joe Gratke and George Johnson.
Commitment services were held Tuesday on account of the late arrival of a daughter, Mrs. Marie Esch of Flagstaff, Ariz.
Mary Lucretia, daughter of Russell and Matilda Wells, was born March 03, 1875, at Brodhead, Wis. She came to Iowa at an early age to make her home with an aunt, Mrs. Mary Harkin of Aurora, and received her education at Fayette, later teaching near Strawberry Point. In 1894 she was married to John Henry Jewell of Scales Mound, Ill.
Besides her husband, seven children survive: Mrs. Rita Haman, Clair and Dale of Scales Mound, Ill.; Harold of Elkader; Mrs. Kenneth Esch of Flagstaff, Ariz.; Mrs. Clair Meyer of Chicago and Will of Strawberry Point; and 11 grandchildren. A daughter, Lorena died in infancy.
