Funeral services were conducted Thursday afternoon at St. Paul's Lutheran church by the Rev. V. Hackbarth for Mrs. Charles J. Roggman, 75, who died at her home here Monday afternoon following a lingering illness.
Mrs. Roggman, whose maiden name was Anna Margaret Kregel, was born May 05, 1868, on a farm several miles west of Garnavillo. She was the daughter of Dietrich Kregel and his wife Helene Arnt_en Kregel. She was baptized by the Rev. Fr. Rentsch of St. Paul's Lutheran church, and later confirmed by the Rev. F_uchten_ht. Her secular education was secured at West Side school.
On April 28, 1897 she was married to Charles J. Roggman by the Rev. F. Sommerlad. They had four children, Robert, who died at age five; Arnold D. of Garnavillo; a third child who died at birth; and Bernadine Fiete, also of Garnavillo.
Mrs. Roggman's early life was spent on the home farm and for a time she was an art student of the late Althea Sheman of National. As a member of St. Paul's Sewing circle, which has been active for the past thirty-six years, she designed patterns and transferred them to many a quilt. She was also a charter member of St. Paul's Ladies Aid society and has always been a leader in church organizations and projects. During her failing health she knitted many articles for the Red Cross.
Mrs. Roggman had always enjoyed good health until the past year and a half. April 16 she went to Finley hospital in Dubuque for special treatment. After a stay of 12 days she returned to her home where she died Monday afternoon. Her husband died a year ago on the first of May.
Her parents, two sisters, Mrs. Louisa Tangeman of Garnavillo and Mrs. Emma Schmidt of Elkader and one brother Henry, preceded her in death.
Besides her son and daughter, she leaves two brothers, George F. Kregel of Nebraska City, Nebr., and Alvin J. Kregel of Garnavillo, a sister, Mrs. Cornelia Drahn of Little Rock, Ark., and two grandchildren.
