Clayton County Register, 10 June 1943.

William Morarend, 77, of Guttenberg, was found dead in a separator house at the farm of his son Irvin at Colesburg early Monday morning. Mr. Morarend had taken his own life by hanging, according to Sheriff E. W. (Dick) Carlsen, who investigated the incident. County Coroner D. E. Lowe was called and he pronounced the death a suicide.

Mr. Morarend's home was near Guttenberg but he had been spending a few days at the home of his son. The family returned home Sunday night and found his body. He is survived by several sons and daughters.

Funeral services were held Wednesday afternoon at Colesburg, with burial in the Guttenberg cemetery.
