John H. Jewell, 84, died Thursday at the home of a daughter, Mrs. Roy Eustice, in Scales Mound, Ill., where he had made his home the past year.

Son of John and Johanna Richards Jewell, he was born Jan. 01, 1863, at Scales Mound. He had lived in and near Strawberry Point for 63 years. He was a farmer and carpenter. On March 28, 1893 he was married to Mary Wells who died Sept. 03, 1943.

Survivors include; four sons, Dale, Chicago, Clair, Scales Mound, Ill., Harold, Elkader, and William, Strawberry Point; three daughters, Mrs. Roy Eustice, Scales Mound, Mrs. Kenneth Esch, Flagstaff, Ariz., and Mrs. Clair Meyer, Chicago; three brothers, Thomas, Strawberry Point, Walter, Edgewood, and William, Park Rapids, Minn.; three sisters, Mrs. Priscilla Miekle, Strawberry Point, Mrs. Francis Garts, Oelwein, and Mrs. Ida Rogers, Scales Mound; eleven grandchildren and four great-grandchildren.

Funeral services were held Sunday. The body was placed in the mausoleum in the Strawberry Point cemetery.
