Funeral services for LeRoy Berns, 54, of Garber, were held this morning at 10 o'clock at St. Michael's church, Garber. Burial was in St. Joseph's cemetery here. The Rev. Lorin Holmberg was in charge of the services.
Mr. Berns died Sunday at Finley hospital, Dubuque, following an operation last Wednesday.

ELKPORT: Funeral services for LeRoy Francis Berns, 54, were held at St. Michael's church in Garber at 10 a.m. Thursday, the Rev. Loras Holmberg officiating. Burial was in St. Joseph cemetery, Elkader.
Mr. Berns died Sunday morning, Dec. 14, at Finley hospital, Dubuque, following an operation on Wednesday, Dec. 10. He was born in Garnavillo township Feb. 03, 1893, the son of Mr. and Mrs. Theodore Berns. He farmed his entire life in the vicinity of Elkport. He was married to Marie Haas Oct. 22, 1913 at Garnavillo.
Surviving are: his wife, four sons and two daughters, Alvin of Garber, Mrs. Al (Julina) Kunzman of Volga, Earl and Herbert of Elkader, Mrs. Kenneth (Irene) DeBuck of Chicago, and Lester at home; five sisters and four brothers, Mrs. Wm. Muench of Elkader, Mrs. John Zapf of Littleport, Wm Berns of Elkader, Mrs. Mat___a Kriebs of Elkport, Mrs. Ag__s Grady of Dubuque, Joe Berns of Cedar Rapids, Lawrence Berns of Lamont, Mrs. Alphonse Whittle of Harpers Ferry, and Clarence Berns of California; also five grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents.
Pallbearers were Frank Scheffert, Haldon Reimer, Earl Matt, Emil Zittergruen, Martin Kruse and Wm. Vorwald.
Out of town relatives attending the funeral services were: Mrs. Agnes Grady and children Rolla_d and Pauline, Dubuque; Mr. and Mrs. Lawrence Berns and children, Lamont; Mr. and Mrs. Larry Berns and son, Clarksville; Mr. and Mrs. Alphonse Whittle, Harpers Ferry; Joe Berns, Cedar Rapids; Mr. and Mrs. John Zapf, Littleport; Mr. and Mrs. Ed Meier, Chester; Clara Sabelka, Lawler; Mr. and Mrs. Paul Meier, Gutenberg; Mr. and Mrs. Herbert Haas and family, Garnavillo; Bob Kerper, New Vienna, and Mr. and Mrs. Ray DeBuck and son Kenneth, Chicago.
