Funeral services for Mrs. Minnie Gifford, 87, were held at the George Gifford home at Elkport Saturday, Nov. 22. The Rev. Paul Kitterer, pastor of the Peace Evangelical and Reformed church, Elkader, officiated. Burial was in the Littleport cemetery.
Mrs. Gifford had enjoyed her usual good health until last Sept. 07, when she fell and fractured her hip. She was taken to Finley hospital in Dubuque and later moved to the Moser nursing home at Strawberry Point, where she was a bed patient until her death Nov. 19.
Minnie Voss was born on a farm near Elkader, Feb. 29, 1860, the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Fred Voss. She was married to Prentice Gifford at Clayton Center. They spent some time in Nebraska, returning to Littleport and later moving to Elkport, where they operated the Elkport hotel. Mr. Gifford died Dec. 31, 1911. In later years Mrs. Gifford made her home alternately with her two sons, George L. Gifford of Elkport, and Harry of Cedar Rapids.
She is survived by her two sons and their wives, four grandchildren and four great-grandchildren, besides other relatives and friends. She was preceded in death by her husband and one daughter, Mrs. Asa (Mary B.) Kriebs.
Pallbearers were: James Noggle, Willis Lewin, Robert Hafner, Harold Kriebs, Lawrence Waterman, and Henry Beeh.
Relatives from a distance attending were: Mr. and Mrs. Harry Gifford, Mr. and Mrs. Bernard Ackman and daughter Toni Jo, Mr. and Mrs. Oliver Andreson, all of Cedar Rapids; Mr. and Mrs. E. L. Gifford, Mr. and Mrs. Eugene Gifford and son Thomas, all of Dubuque; and Mrs. Otto Ortman, Ellensburg, Wash.
