Funeral services for Ben Leonard, who died of a heart attack at his home late Tuesday afternoon, were held at the Witt funeral chapel at 2 o'clock this afternoon. The Rev. Herbert G. Kelly officiated. Military services were in charge of Lemka-Stendel Post of the American Legion and Clayton County Post 4565 of the Veterans of Foreign Wars. Burial was in the East Side cemetery.

Military funeral services for Ben F. Leonard, 60, were held at the Witt funeral chapel at 2 o'clock Thursday afternoon, Nov. 20. The Rev. Herbert G. Kelly, pastor of the Congregational - Christian church officiated. Burial was in the East Side cemetery.

Mr. Leonard, a veteran of World War I, died suddenly of a heart attack at his home in Elkader at 5:20 Tuesday afternoon, Nov. 18.

Benjamin Franklin Leonard was born on a farm a mile north of Elkader, Jan. 23, 1887, the son of Richard and Mary Wagner Leonard. He received his education in the Elkader public school. He was married to Miss Clara Erickson at Elkader, Nov. 02, 1917. They continued to live on the farm where he was born until 1939, when they moved to their home in Elkader, where they have since resided.

A veteran of World War I, he served 14 months overseas with the Thirtieth Division (Old Hickory), Company C, 118 Infantry.

Mr. Leonard was a member of Lemka-Stendel Post No. 106 of the American Legion, and a past commander of that organization; also a member of the Veterans of Foreign Wars Elkader, and of the Voiture No. 632, the 40 and 8, of Dubuque. He was a former director of the Elkader fair board.

He is survived by his wife and one daughter, Mrs. Milton (Kathleen) Wolf, and his aged mother, Mrs. Mary Leonard, who for the past year has made her home with her son and daughter-in-law. Also one granddaughter. He was preceded in death by his father, a six-year-old sister, Fannie, and a brother, Harry, who died in infancy.

Pallbearers were: E. F. Seifert, Henry Reinhardt, Louis Wagner, George Behn, William Allen, and W. E. Saur.

Relatives from a distance who attended the funeral were: Mr. and Mrs. Will Leonard, Mr. and Mrs. Tom Leonard and daughter, Waterloo; John Leonard, Mrs. Alfred Burrock, and Mrs. Gordon Olson, Arlington; Mr. and Mrs. Clifton Powell, Elgin; and Mr. and Mrs. Vernett Embretson, St. Olaf.
