Funeral services for Mrs. Amelia Mohning, who died at her home Sunday, Oct. 26, were held Wednesday afternoon at St. Paul's church in Garnavillo with the Rev. Alexander Meyer officiating.
Amelia Wilhelmina Sophia Mohning was born April 06, 1876, in Clayton county, the oldest child of Mr. and Mrs. Fredrick Otting. She was baptized on May 29, in the same year and was confirmed April 2_, 1889, by the Rev. Sommerlad in St. Paul's church. She was a member of that church during her entire lifetime.
She lived with her parents until March 28, 1893, when she was married to John Frederick Mohning. They set up housekeeping on the Mohning homestead where she lived until the time of her death.
Her husband died December 05, 1941 and since that time she has been living with her son, Foster and family.
Mrs. Mohning enjoyed fairly good health until this summer. She was taken to Rochester Sept. 17, and entered the Mayo Clinic. Her ailment was found to be a malignant tumor of the liver. Medical aid being impossible she was returned home and her condition gradually became worse.
Besides her husband, one daughter, Georgene, preceded her in death.
She is survived by two sons, Lester of Clayton and Foster of McGregor, one daughter, Mrs. Ernie Bachhaus of Guttenberg, two brothers, Herman and Henry Otting of McGregor, three sisters, Justina Otting of McGregor, Mrs. Georgena Werges of McGregor, and Mrs. Odelia Little of Farmersburg, besides seven grandchildren and one great-grandchild.
