William J. Roach died Sunday, August 03, at 11 a.m., at Mercy hospital, Dubuque, after one week of illness.

Mr. Roach was born in Elkader, October 13, 1865, and lived his entire life in this community.

He was the son of the late John and Hannah Roach of this city. November 19, 1895, he was married to Minnie Hannon at Elkader. They celebrated their golden wedding anniversary one year and eight months ago.

Seven children were born to this union: Mrs. William P. Boland (Anne) of Long Beach, Calif.; Mrs. Carl Ehrhardt (Marie) of Elkader; Vincent Roach, Baraboo, Wis.; Mrs. Cal Etteldorf (Zita) of Monona; LaVern Roach of Volga, and Paul Roach at home. One son preceded him in death April 04, 1927. He has twelve grandchildren and one great-grandchild. Surviving are four sisters, Sister M. Stanislaus and Sister M. Leo, both of Dubuque; Mrs. William Finley and Mrs. Frank McGruder, Elkader; and a brother, John Roach, of Omaha, Neb. A brother, Michael Roach, preceded him in death three weeks ago.

Mr. Roach was a active member of the Knights of Columbus and was also a member of the Catholic Order of Foresters for many years.

Funeral services were conducted Tuesday morning at 10 o'clock at St. Joseph's church at Elkader, with the Rev. B. H. Skahill officiating. Burial was in St. Joseph's cemetery.

Pallbearers were six nephews of Mr. Roach. They were: Gerald and Ralph Feeney, John and Leo Roach, Edward Finley and Donald Shea.

Out-of-town relatives who attended the funeral were: Mrs. William P. Boland, Long Beach, Calif.; Sister M. Stanislaus and Sister M. Leo, Dubuque; Mr. and Mrs. Vincent Roach, Sue, Jane, and Jimmy, Baraboo, Wis.; Mrs. Gerald Mulroney, Des Moines; Mrs. Joseph Pasterino, Racine, Wis.; Miss Eileen Ehrhardt, Chicago, Ill.; Mrs. Marg Etteldorf, Phil Etteldorf and Kathryn and Mr. and Mrs. H. Supernitz and John, Festina; Mr. and Mrs. Ralph Feeney and Mrs. Thomas Boland, Strawberry Point; Mr. and Mrs. Lavern Roach, Mr. and Mrs. John Shea and family, Mr. and Mrs. Roy Candee and Mrs. F. Konzen, all of Volga. The Knights of Columbus were honor guard at the church and grave.
