MICHAEL JOSEPH ROACH.
Funeral services were held Monday, July 14, for Michael Joseph Roach, a Clayton county pioneer farmer, from the Oelke funeral home to St. Joseph's Catholic church at 10 o'clock. Mr. Roach died Thursday, July 10, after six weeks of llness.
Born at Elkader, Jan. 04, 1863, he was the son of John and Hannah Roach. He farmed in Highland township, six miles from Elkader, until his retirement in 1920, when he moved to Elkader.
He was married to Anna Geraghty on June 03, 1890, at Elkader. Seven children were born to this union. They are: John Roach and Leo Roach, Elkader; Joe Roach, Chicago; Clarence Roach, St. Paul, Mrs. Henry (Vera) Schaumann and Mrs. Dominic (May) Greeley, St. Paul, and Harold Roach, who died in 1932.
Surviving other than his wife and children are: two brothers, William Roach, Elkader, and John Roach, Omaha; four sisters, Mrs. William Finley and Mrs. Frank McGruder, both of Elkader; Sister Mary Stanislaus and Sister Mary Leo, both of Dubuque. There are also eight grandchildren.
Pall bearers were the four sons, John, Clarence, Leo and Joe, and two sons-in-law, Henry Schaumann and Dominic Greeley.
