Funeral services for Mary Ann Jones, 10, who died at the University hospital in Iowa City on Thursday, June 05, were held from the Oelke funeral home at 1:30 o'clock on Sunday to the Peace Evangelical and Reformed church at 2 p.m. The Rev. Paul Kitterer, pastor, officiating. Burial was in the Strawberry Point cemetery.
Mary Ann, the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Harold Jones, Elkader, was born on December 25, 1936, in Fayette county on a farm near Lamont, later moving with her parents to a farm near Elkader. She attended the French Hollow school near her home and would have entered the fifth grade this fall. She attended Sunday school at the Peace Evangelical and Reformed church in Elkader.
Mary Ann was apparently in good health until several weeks ago when it was noticed that she began to lose her balance. She was taken to the hospital in Iowa City where it was discovered she had a brain tumor. Surgery was resorted to, but to no avail.
She is survived by her parents, Mr. and Mrs. Harold Jones, one sister, Betty Mae, and two brothers, Irwin and Leland. Also her great-grandmother, Mrs. Greta Jones of Lamont and several aunts and uncles.
Pallbearers were: Tom Hamilton, Fred Knoke, Lester Maker, Gustav Lutz, Noel Meisner and Ewald Maker.
