Littleport: Funeral services for Wm. Waterman, 78, of Littleport, were held at Hope Lutheran church Friday afternoon April 18, with the Rev. H. E. Hahn of the St. Sebald officiating. Burial was in the Union cemetery.
Wm. Waterman, son of Fred and Minnie Waterman, died in his home in Littleport early Wednesday morning, April 16, following a long illness. He was born Dec. 03, 1868, in Elkport, where he received his education. He was instructed and confirmed in the Lutheran faith in Elkport on April 06, 1884.
On Jan. 18, 1899, he was married to Emma Jaster. His entire life was spent in farming. He had a prominent part in the progress of the town of Littleport, serving as a member of the church council, the school board and the town council for many years. He also gave the ground on which Hope Lutheran church is located.
He is survived by his wife, one son, Paul, at home; two daughters, Mrs. Ransom Ruegnitz and Mrs. Roy Ruegnitz, both of Elkport, six grandchildren; one brother, Chas. Waterman, and one sister, Mrs. Emma Willie, both of Elkport.
Pallbearers were: G. H. Meyer, Elkader, Fred Liddy, Fred Winch, Geo. Chappell, Chas Reichart and Wm. Schuldt, all of Littleport.
Friends from a distance who attended the funeral were: Mr. and Mrs. Batchelder and daughter, Mrs. Gerald Walz, of Central City; and C. C. Behrens and Mrs. Clara Ortman of Cedar Rapids, besides many friends from Strawberry Point, Elkader, Guttenberg, Edgewood and Elkport.
