Herman H. Hartke, 63, died at his farm southeast of town Monday. Son of Gerhard and Anna Hartke, he was born Aug. 23, 1883, in Hanover, Germany, coming to the states 34 years ago. On Dec. 12, 1907, he was married at Alsac, Germany, to Kathryn Hoch.

Surviving are his widow, three sons, William and Alfred of Strawberry Point and Paul of Elkader; a daughter, Mrs. Irvin Becker, of Elkader, five grandchildren; a sister, Lizzie Hartbeck, in Germany.

Funeral services were held in the Methodist church Thursday afternoon, conducted by the Rev. R. Park Anderson. Music was furnished by Dr. and Mrs. R. W. Dutton, accompanied by Mrs. Lloyd Kramer. Casket bearers were Ben Funke, Frank Funke, Leonard Klosterman, Dennis Lamphere, Ralph Maiers and Worthy Smith. Burial was in the Zion cemetery at Colesburg.
