Funeral services for Lawrence M. Larson, 32, were held Monday, March 31, at the Witt funeral home, Elkader, and the Highland Lutheran church. The Rev. A. O. Nessett officiated. Mr. Larson died at Monona early Friday morning, March 28, of a heart attack.
Burial was in the Highland cemetery. The pallbearers were as follows: Edwin Ernst, Robert Kirschbaum, E_lon Mauer, Glen McClure, Gerald Nesteby, and Russell Smith.
Lawrence Monroe Larson, son of Albert and Margaret Larson, was born July 10, 1914, on a farm in Highland township. There he spent his boyhood days, attending the country school and graduating from the eighth grade. He was a member of the Highland Lutheran church. Just before entering service in World War II he worked in Elkader.
He enlisted in the army Feb. 14, 1941, and served as a driver of a medical supply truck of the Third Infantry. During his two and one-half years overseas he took part in battles and campaigns in Tunisia Algeria, French Morocco, Sicily Naples, Foggia, Rome, Arno, Southern France, the Rhineland, and Cental Europe. He received the Good Conduct ribbon, the Croix de Guerre with Palm, American Defense service ribbon, European African-Middle Eastern ribbon one silver and two bronze battle stars, and five overseas service bars. He received his honorable discharge June 27, 1945. The following August he and brother, Harry J. Larson, purchased an oil business in Elkader.
Mr. Larson is survived by his parents; two sisters, Mrs. Mervin Sarchet, Racine, Wis., and Mrs. Don Tieden, Elkader; four brothers, Harry J. and Glen of Elkader, and Philman and Paul of Elgin, seven nephews and four nieces.
Those who attended the funeral from a distance were: Mr. and Mrs. Mervin Carchet of Racine, Wis., Pfc. Mervin Wade Sarchet of Cherry Point, N.C., Mr. and Mrs. Spangler of Good Hope, Ill., and Mr. and Mrs. Bob Kirschbaum of Ayrshire, Iowa.
