ST. OLAF: John Christenson, 86, died at his home in St. Olaf, Thursday morning, March 13, after a three months' illness.

Funeral services were held Sunday morning at 11 o'clock in the Norway Lutheran church with the Rev. S. J. Strandjord officiating.

Pallbearers were nephews of the deceased; namely, Harry O. Larson, Fred Rugland, Floyd Orvis, Vernett and Aden Embretson, Alvin Larson, Orvin Embretson and Elmer Wilke.

Burial was in the adjoining cemetery.

John Christenson, son of Hans and Olina (Hulverson) Christenson, was born Oct. 27, 1860, on a farm in Read township, Clayton county. He died at his home in St. Olaf.

In 1890 he was married to Caroline Embretson, and two years later moved to St. Olaf where he purchased a lumber business, operating it until 1915 when he retired.

Besides being an active and life-long member of the Norway Lutheran church where he was baptized and confirmed, he was also interested in the building of the St. Olaf Lutheran chapel and worked untiringly for its realization. For 18 years he served the congregation as its secretary and was for many years a member of its choir.

In October, 1946, Mr. and Mrs. Christenson observed their 56th wedding anniversary.

He is survived by his wife and daughter Celia, one sister, Mrs. Hannah Knudson and a number of nieces and nephews. One daughter, Jeanette died in infancy. His parents, three sisters and two brothers also preceded him in death.
