Alex Porter, 89, Strawberry Point, a former deputy sheriff of Clayton County, died at his home in Strawberry Point, Wednesday, March 19, following a long illness.

Masonic services were held at the funeral chapel in Strawberry Point at 2: o'clock Thursday afternoon with the Rev. R. Park Anderson of the Methodist church officiating, and burial was in the Strawberry Point cemetery.

Mr. Porter was long active in Republican politics. He served as deputy sheriff of Clayton County under George Losch and was postmaster at Strawberry Point from 1923 until 1930 when he retired from active business.

He served as a member of the Strawberry Point school board for a number of years. Mr. Porter was a Thirty-second degree Mason and a 60 year member of the Masonic lodge A.F. & A.M. No. 130 of Strawberry Point and a member of the Methodist church.

He is survived by two daughters, Lucy R. Porter of Strawberry Point and Madge M. Porter R.N. of Emmetsburg.

He was preceded in death by his wife in 1925 and a son, Dr. Van A. Porter, in 1910.
