Edward Henry Barrows was born in Cassville, Wis., June 16, 1860. The son of Newell and Sarah Barrows. When he was a small boy he came to Iowa with his parents, who settled on a farm near Early, Iowa, and later near Storm Lake. As a young man he taught in the rural schools of Iowa and also in the School of Telegraphy in Janesville, Wis., later becoming Passenger agent for the Chicago Northwestern Railroad.

In 1900 he married O'Della Pickering of Boone, Ia., and they moved to Odebolt, where Mr. Barrows became the manager of the Adams Ranch. Later he returned to railroad work and retired at the age of 70. He and Mrs. Barrows then moved to Missouri from there coming to Farmersburg four years ago, because of failing health of both of them.

Surviving besides his wife are four children, two daughters, Mrs. A. J. Tiedemann, Hillsdale, N.J.; Mrs. Herbert Thoreson, Farmersburg; two sons, Richard Barrows, Miami, Fla.; and Capt. Edward Barrows, Korea; and four granddaughters also two sisters, Mrs. Medo Maggoner, Edwards, Wash.; Mrs. Clifford Beall, Raymond, Wash.

He became a member of Wheeler Lodge No. 398 A.F. & A.M. in 1896, he was also a member of Rosa Croix Chapter of Knights Templars.
