John Downie 93, a former Elkader resident died at his home at Merrill, Wis., Wednesday, Dec. 25. Requiem mass was held at St. Francis Xavier church in that city, and the body was brought to Elkader for burial in St. Joseph cemetery. The Rev. B. H. Skahill officiated at the burial services.
Mr. Downie was born at Falls Creek, Conn., on August 13, 1853. He was employed as a teamster both in Elkader and Merrill, Wis., for a good many years. The family left Elkader in 1909 and Mrs. Downie died in 1911.
He is survived by two sons, Frank of Chadron, Neb., and James of Merrill, Wis.; and two daughters, Mildred and Hazel, both of Merrill, Wis., also a brother, Pat Downey of Elkader.
