As a son of Lewis and Adeline Howes, he was born April 11, 1863, at Littleport and died at his home on West Mission Street, Monday morning, following a heart attack. Last August, while at his farm west of town, he fell on the cement driveway and suffered a fractured hip. He was taken to the hospital in Oelwein where he was cared for, for some time, and wanting to come home was moved here where he has been confined to his bed. He has spent his entire life in and around Strawberry Point. His parents and sister, Mrs. Paul (Mary) Paulson, preceded him in death.
