MCGREGOR: Funeral services were held last Tuesday afternoon for L. P. Bickel, prominent McGregor business man at the home, Rev. G. W. McMichael officiating, assisted by the Masonic lodge. Mr. Bickel had been in ill health for the past year and confined to his home, later to the hospital for the past three weeks. He died at the hospital Nov. 03, 1940. Burial was in Pleasant Grove cemetery. Leroy Philip Bickel was born in Giard, Aug. 19, 1886, the son of Mr. and Mrs. J. D. Bickel. He moved to McGregor with his parents when about six years old and attended the McGregor schools. Except for a short period when he worked at LaCrosse, his whole life was spent in McGregor. He purchased the grocery business in 1906 which he has conducted ever since and which has been the leading grocery of the town for many years. He was married June 30, 1915, to Miss Doii Elwell. He is survived by his widow, two sons, Herbert, a senior at the University of Wisconsin and John, a junior at Coe college and one daughter, Betty a senior in high school; three brothers, Karl of Ft. Worth, Texas, Earl and Robert of Cedar Rapids and one sister, Mrs. James Riley of Dubuque.
