VOLGA: Funeral services were held Thursday, Oct. 31, at Sacred Heart Catholic church for Mrs. James Bergan who died at her home early Tuesday morning, Oct. 29, following a brief illness.
The Rev. D. T. Noonan, pastor celebrated the requiem high mass.
Mrs. Bergan, formerly Kate Minihan was born in Highland township and lived all her life in Clayton county, having taught school for a number of years prior to her marriage.
She was preceded in death by her parents, one sister Anna and a brother Patrick. Surviving are her husband, James Bergan of Volga City and three sisters; Margaret, Mayme and Johannah Minihan of Elkader.
Mrs. Bergan was a faithful member of the Sacred Heart church, the Rosary Society, the Alter Society and the Sacred Heart League.
The casket-bearers were: Frank O'Brien, Emmet Thyne, Frank Cox, Joseph Little, Maurice and Patrick Minihan. Burial was in Sacred Heart cemetery, Volga City.

J. Van Biesen and family, Decorah; Mr. and Mrs. Leo Kelleher and son, Louise and Leo Cassutt, Anna Cain, Anna Poull, Eugene Connor, daughter Mary, Lester Connor and family, Mrs. Harry Kelleher, Mrs. William Finley, Mr. and Mrs. Thomas Bergan, Elkader, Mr. and Mrs. Jim Munice and Florence Elgin.
