Funeral services for Mrs. Elizabeth Burlingame, 76, who died at Froelich from a heart attack, Saturday evening, Sept. 28th, were held at St. Patrick's church, Monona, on Tuesday morning. In the absence of Father Donlon, Father John Horsfield of McGregor conducted the services. Burial was made in St. Patrick's cemetery.
Mrs. Burlingame was born in Bohemia, Nov. 03, 1864, the daughter of the late Mathias and Mary Kostle. She grew to womanhood in Giard township. With her husband, Ben H. Burlingame, they settled on a farm one mile north of Froelich, where she had lived until the death of her husband in 1929, when she moved to Froelich.
Two daughters preceded her in death - Mamie, who died in 1906, and Marjorie, Mrs. Jake Tayek, who died in 1924. She is survived by two sons, Edward of Elkader and Alonzo of Froelich; nine grandchildren, three great-grandchildren, and two sisters, Mrs. Kate Bohonek of Stillwater, Minn., and Mrs. Henry Samek of Beulah.
Pallbearers were Alfred Huinker, Simon Moses, Ben F. Lestina, Martin Vlagney, Harry Klotzbach and Dave Kammerer.
Those from a distance, who came to the funeral were: Miss Lottie Thiese of Tripp, S.D., Mrs. Anna Brunner and son Frederick of River falls, Wis., Mrs. George Pederson of Corwith, Iowa, Mr. and Mrs. R. J. Tayek of Chicago and Robert Tayek of Iowa City.
