Funeral services for Mrs. Gustav Skibbe were held at the Emanuel's Lutheran church Saturday afternoon, conducted by the Rev. Max O. Jahr. Burial was made in the Strawberry Point cemetery.
As Minnie Imlau, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Carl Imlau, she was born at East Prussia, Germany, on July 10, 1865, and died Thursday morning after many months of suffering and on the fifty-seventh wedding anniversary. In 1877, she came to the United States. She was married to Gustav Skibbe at the Emanuel Lutheran church by Rev. G. Graf, then pastor, on Sept. 12, 1883. The home was made on a farm until 1918 when they moved to town. The members of the Ladies Aid society surprised them on their golden wedding anniversary.
Mrs. Skibbe was confirmed and baptized in the Lutheran church and a member of the Ladies Aid society and attended both of these meetings as long as health permitted. Surviving are the husband and five children, Charles Skibbe, Henry Skibbe, Otto Skibbe and Mrs. William (Rose) Swisher all of Strawberry Point and Frank Skibbe of Mason City also eight grandchildren and one great-grandchild, and one sister and brother, Mrs. Henrietta Buechner and William Imlau, both of Strawberry Point.
