Stella Emily Towslee, daughter of Clark and Lucinda Towslee, was born at Otisville in Clayton county, Iowa, Feb. 17, 1869. In early childhood, her parents moved to Edgewood where she lived until the time of her marriage to Adelbert Harvey, Jan. 01, 1890. To this union were born nine children, two dying in infancy.
In June 1926, she suffered the loss of her husband. All of their married life was spent on a farm near Volga City. After his death, she lived in Volga City until the time of her second marriage to J. J. Shoemaker of Fayette, on March 31, 1938. He passed away on April 20 of this year.
She leaves her children to mourn her sudden passing, May 13, 1940, at the age of 71 years, 2 months, 26 days; Mrs. Charm Everitt, Volga City; Mrs. Vesta Hummel, Elkader; Rueben Harvey, Monmouth, Ore.; Mrs. Jessie Dunn, Snohomish, Wash.; Mrs. Alma Crandall, Snohomish, Wash.; Alfred Harvey, Strawberry Point; Mrs. Alta Goldsmith, Greeley; also twelve grandchildren and a host of friends.
Funeral services were held in the Methodist church at Volga City of which the deceased was a member, Saturday afternoon, May 18, 1940, conducted by the pastor, Rev. E. J. Starr. Two hymns were sung by a quartet composed of Freda Adams, Jennie Susie, Harry Boleyn, and Clarence Kohls with Mrs. Kohls at the piano.
Mr. Kohls also sang a solo, "His Eve is on the Sparrow."
Casketbearers were all members of the Pathfinder Sunday School class of which Mrs. Shoemaker was a member. They were: Frank and George Oldfather, Logan Wilson, Louis Hungerford, William Chase and Water Everitt.
Burial was in Hill Crest cemetery, Volga City. We join in extending our heartfelt sympathy to the bereaved family.
