Whitney, John died 1861

DIED - At his residence near Monona, Iowa on the 6th inst, of lung complaint, John Whitnay [sic], aged [illegible] years.

Mr. Whitney was a native of Ote_go Co., N.Y.; he removed to the West in 1851 where he has since resided.

In varied relations of life as Husband, Father and friend, he was a faithful and just administrator, although not a member of any religious society, during his late and severe affliction he chose that better part and welcomed his approaching dissolution.

He left a good testimony behind that he has gone to the Christians rest; a wife and children are left to mourn his loss.
