Funeral services for Asbjorn Gulsvig were held in the Marion church, Tuesday, March 19, with the Rev. S. J. Strandjord officiating. Burial was held in the adjoining cemetery.
He was born in Norway, Feb. 21, 1854, and was the son of Engelbret and Jorand (Sorteberg) Gulsvig, both natives of Aal Hallingdal, Norway. The parents came to America and established a home in Clayton county. Mr. Gulsvig was one of a family of 16.
In 1878 he was married to Elsie Olson of Highland. This union was blessed with ten children. She preceded him in death in 1913. In 1918 he was united in marriage to Dora Thompson who died in 1934.
He spent his early life on the farm. At the age of 50 years he moved to St. Olaf where he lived until March 15, 1940, where he after a brief illness died.
He is survived by one sister, Mrs. Regina Nass, and one brother, Embret of Gunder, four daughters and four sons: Mrs. Jorgena Stearns of St. Olaf; Mrs. Mary Erickson of Postville; Mrs. Clara Wold of Minneapolis; Mrs. Evelyn Knobloch of Montevideo, Minn.; Emil and Albert of Marvin township, Edward of St. Paul; Ben of Edgewood; 25 grandchildren and 12 great-grandchildren. Olavus, a son, died in 1922, at Moorhead, Minn.
Attending the funeral from out of town were: Mr. and Mrs. Robert Knobloch and son of Montevideo, Minn., Mr. and Mrs. Edward Gulsvig of St. Paul, Minn.; Mr. and Mrs. E. K. Wold; Mrs. Geo. Christoferson, Minerva Erickson, all of Minneapolis; Henry and Ben Gulsvig of Moorhead, Minn.; Ben Bakkin of Northwood, Iowa; Asbjorn Asbjornson, Kinsett, Iowa; Mrs. Knud Neste of Decorah, Mr. and Mrs. Andrew T. Boe of Ridgeway.
