Funeral services were held Monday afternoon at the Oelke mortuary at one o'clock, and at 1:30 at the Frieden's Evangelical church for Mrs. Eleanora Berns. Burial was made in the Mt. Harmony cemetery near Elkport, the Rev. P. Kitterer officiating.

The deceased, Mrs. Eleanora Henrietta Berns, was the daughter of Dietrick Beck and his wife, Emelie Helbig, and was born March 03, 1896, at Elkport, Iowa, and died at her home Saturday morning, March 09, at the age of 44 years and six days.

Mrs. Berns spent her entire life in this county. She was baptized and confirmed in the Lutheran church in Elkport. On Dec. 30, 1915, she was united in marriage to William Berns at Dubuque. Mrs. Berns fulfilled her part as a wife and mother well and also found time to help others when she learned that they were in need.

Mrs. Berns death was a shock to her loved ones and all who knew her, for she arose the morning of her death, apparently in good health and then suffered a heart attack, which was the cause of her death.

Three children were born to Mr. and Mrs. Berns and they, with their father, mourn their mother's death. The children are: Linus, Marguerite and Carroll. The deceased also leaves to mourn her death two brothers and four sisters, Joe and Clarence Beck of Littleport, Mrs. Clarence Lau of Oelwein, Mrs. Ben Noggles of Strawberry Point, Mrs. Roy Michaels of Springfield, Ill., Mrs. Horace Yiesley of Cedar Rapids. Two brothers and one sister preceded her in death.
