Clayton County Register, 28 Feb. 1940.

The body of Mrs. Leona Carpenter, the former Miss Leona Schroeder, was brought to Guttenberg Saturday morning from Sac City, where they have been residing. Mrs. Carpenter had been ill several years and she died Thursday. Her husband, mother, Mrs. Minnie Tindell, two sisters, Althea Oldham and LaVon Schroeder, and one brother, Russell Schroeder, mourn her death.

The funeral was held Saturday at one o'clock, and the Rev. Martin Petters officiated. Burial was in the Guttenberg cemetery.
