ST. OLAF: Christian Otto Halverson, son of Hans Halverson and Christine (Hovdy) Halverson, was born Nov. 25, 1867, on a farm in Boardman township, where he spent 64 years of his life. Feb. 28, 1900, he was united in marriage with Nellie Sorum, who preceded her husband in death in 1910.
To this union were born three children, who died in infancy. He was also preceded in death by six sisters, Mrs. Carrie Halverson, Mrs. Nettie Larson, Mrs. Gina Thompson, Mrs. Martha Paulson, Helen, and Mattie. He was a member of the Norwegian Lutheran church, having been baptized and confirmed in the Lutheran faith. On Dec. 27, 1932, he retired from farming and moved to St. Olaf, where he made his home until his death. July 22, 1939, he suffered a stroke, from which he never recovered and was bedfast for the past seven months. About 2:30 Tuesday afternoon, Feb. 20, 1940, he departed from this life at the age of 72 years, three months and twenty-six days. He leaves to mourn his departure four sisters, Lena, Mrs. A. C. Meyer, of Castalia; Clara, Mrs. L. A. Larson, of Miller; Belle, of Santa Ana, Cal.; and Tena, of St. Olaf, besides several nieces, nephews, other relatives, and a host of friends.
The funeral services were held Monday, Feb. 26 at the Norway Lutheran church, the Rev. S. Strandjord officiating. Burial was made in the Norway cemetery.
