Clayton County Register, 28 Feb. 1940.

STRAWBERRY POINT: Funeral services were held for Mrs. Kate Flower, 82, Sunday afternoon at 2 p.m., at the Methodist church at Arlington with the Rev. E J. Starr officiating. Interment was in the Strawberry Point cemetery. Two hymns, "Beautiful Isle of Somewhere" and "The Old Rugged Cross," were sung by Mr. and Mrs. W. L. Peters, accompanied by Mrs. E. J. Starr. The casket bearers were D. A. Newton, Harley S_edorff, L. L. Welch, G. C. Bates, Will Nace, and Cecil Duff.

Kate Charlotte Leonhart, the youngest daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Peter Leonhart, was born April 24, 1858, at the country home about four miles northeast of Arlington, then known as Brush Creek, in Fayette county. When only three years of age, her mother passed away, leaving her under the care of her father and older brothers. She received her education in the Fayette county rural schools, where she was often the victor in the spelling bees.

She was united in marriage to Henry Ely Flower, December23, 1875. The couple made their home on a farm adjoining the old Flower homestead, where they lived for twenty-two years. Having then decided to retire from the farm, they moved to their home in Arlington, where she resided until her husband's death February 26, 1939. Mrs. Flower continued to live in her home until her passing Thursday afternoon, February 22, 1940. She had been in apparently good health and her passing was a shock to the entire community.

Mrs. Flower had been active in attending to her household duties and she had retained her faculties to a remarkable degree.

She leaves to survive one daughter, Mrs. M. F. (Harriet) Harwood of Strawberry Point, and one granddaughter, Mrs. M. F. (Helene) Alderson of Oelwein. One sister, Regina, and four brothers, Martin, Charlie, Will, and Fred, preceded her in death.
